I love shooting industrial stuff and bringing new vision to it. I have some clients that are resistant and others are open to new ideas. The hard pard is telling them that they really need to work with a graphic designer or art director. This is the <a href="http://www.blueskyphotographyinc.com/html/corporate-industrial.html" title="Metro Detroit Industrial Photography" rel="nofollow">industrial</a> page on my website.

It is wonderful when a client has the trust and foresight to allow the photographer to think outside the box. It still amazes me when you can proffer this to a new client (with visual proof) and some will still decide that it's not for them. Tim, this is beautifully executed and a prime example of taking the mundane to look sexy. (heck, I want one, and I'm not even in the market!)
In the same vein, we were approached by a small town non-profit that was putting on a first year "Dancing with the Stars" event benefiting disadvantaged youth. They just wanted on site head-shot type portraits of the couples to create buzz and pre-event voting / donations. We convinced the organizers to have the couples come into the studio to capture five images showing their moves and personality. By the time the third couple had gotten their images done we had pushed the envelope and even propagated a little "trash talk" between the competitors, each one trying to out do the next. The event sold out and they were able to raise over $200k USD (the highest grossing event in the towns history), all because they could see the power of thinking outside the box with imagery.
This is one of the added values of working with professional photographers, we make a difference in our client's bottom line!

Hi Chris
Thanks for your comments
You’ve clearly demonstrated how agency and clients are actually being ripped off.
327 websites using the same image is astounding!
And it cost me $4!!!

Re: "Customers are very astute and stock photography is obvious thanks to its lack of personality and sterility. Sites that use it heavily feel fake."

I think you are absolutely right. Stock images like this are 'lowest common denominator' - they are designed to suit as many purposes as possible, which means they end up lacking any kind of personal appeal, and thus are self-defeating as they are not meaningful to anyone.

And then the company that uses them ends up shooting themselves in the foot:

<a>http://fairtradephotographer.blogspot.com/2010/03/microstock-why-would-reputable-company.html</a>

The free Google <a href="http://www.google.com/insidesearch/searchbyimage.html" rel="nofollow">Search by Image</a> plugin makes this easy. I right clicked on your 'Impersonal stock shot' above, use the Google plugin to search for the same image, and I get <a href="https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbs=sbi:AMhZZitGdCIZ32cmSrqc_14IsGKySU3ju9ahI-7KcjKu7WxPK0fbeNFUkpo2oknOlmy1umWdLoyf6WQN92cFyqgvC0Uu0vw_1pRB0IpaXKgvVJ5leebbvo-wt6NNPxOvlRecfO0NIkepW0DfB8883NeM-aC_1zwrD-sorSZQd-TNfxfPRvMnlOzSw2clfaV4ZzaKZbnstCAutojgJsLHnq_19yAOxzgcYRfMZK5CF84MjboFPpMYqBYCVbwONJxc1oOoYFQdQN63k_1Xei_1t4Ic93HEaht13j8aCjCwSj9Jgb3JpUVHpsLs10fOlkVP4yYrgV6foK-HKXMwtyyn5pdB1Z0an96bE_1VEqWXsZ-rBbiWyuvO9nRN1GzVs2BBFlgFb8U-4FNth8EYzWuIsSomKMVu3ZZvf-l0uoYITs55YOiFWZ3mlHg7RPHORHk3pkCJnNy8cJZAMJTM6H6thhoBAcjihdN1ZByXIlJgZHCyDxJ2O2KlyAnfY5m9VoeIUEVpm9niGQZQRDhoVU5hA00jvHBbd0sk6TewOsdnIOfPzFG3rAnLrbGf8ElP3RP2Awq0bnFX9I6mbguFjxXBIqo02u_1frMZlSZE6Sk23MuNSc-JZhhGv2wGK0tD5jpUarlX1rYkqzhtQJeBETXnOjl2Fc5tahBfPXEgzUthva2Pqcv0j7EwwHoE6f2Jd2M43eEb6_1sHDpwdNqMDG4zOXmo--hU2L6omYkjPjl-4WBU2cvW0XP6OFgF-nI2GbC7il_1Tqiwq4426DlfMbMvvNA08gJQWgxRfsup0jj_1idWrHWrlTPub3mxquzl4OvjRo0njpJIUHeFnpAmMvVWW0ww1DCn9i72Zjnqc09gn7rZEpw0Q0euFj1drmuHnCLttTX08C8_116GM9sOsslVE7Ldhi6KyxhmDS5yp56UqLkD2LSmp43jQAHzGBjU4oEz7jgRqFU0KPwq2cvPzaIFcR3eWsF7Fg5rAUnNiuXgSpzG0vneAsYHOwDr33-Nt-hPCVg7y_1w706btIJRombFSKUJVJd2S8NF0vQcjmCiikAWALW6-Tp0MTAoT65FtBE5h9--ukKiDV0BqRYfirWJ0sRN2C3RuyP3kD5q36m--HHEJqkfI8o53CggbSY2P5fEKC9OWzkX3c8W3YprtYNqIV9dg6HlodMB9IalhxQ3R9f2SOYoxb7CT7HCjePoq9NpBYKzyIvNnzrFbnzzVNKSA8BPNv_1nPw-OJiMvjnJ8V_1QVE1PM5gDjg7fl4h01hVRLZ-eaxJK1eRZK0iW6kFHw5nhgbfZW57Sic3mHjZydTg9U2O32e7lZXZ3wQZbAN068paL6kcv9GwZKfgA1zzFLoeFAi&prmd=imvns&ei=kE4YT7G2CIOqiAK8iJ2pCA&start=10&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=909" rel="nofollow">327 other websites using the very same image</a>.

How can that be good for any of these companies?

I have to say, while looking through hundreds of blogs daily, the theme of this blog is different (for all the proper reasons). If you do not mind me asking, what's the name of this theme or would it be a especially designed affair? It's significantly better compared to the themes I use for some of my blogs.
